Historic District Commission Announces the 2015 Historic Preservation Awards
The Westport Historic District Commission has selected the recipients of the 2015 Historic Preservation Awards. The awards will be presented by First Selectman James S. Marpe, Historic District Commission Chair Francis Henkels, and members of the Historic District Commission at a ceremony on Monday, Oct. 26, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. in Town Hall Auditorium.

2015 Road Paving Work begins October 13
The following roads will be subject to milling and paving operations beginning Tuesday: Sasco Creek Road, Wakeman Place, Baker Avenue, Thomas Road, Wild Rose Road, Cunningham Place, Cross Highway (partial), Red Coat Road (partial), Panhandle Lane, Stony Brook Road, Indian Point Lane, Pequot Trail, Bermuda Road and Surf Road.

Residents are encouraged to voluntarily conserve water and stop non-essential outdoor water use. In spite of the rainfall last week, Connecticut continues to experience conditions ranging from “abnormally dry” to “moderate drought.”

The Commission for Senior Services offers a list of middle and high school students willing to work small outdoor jobs such as raking leaves or shoveling walkways.

Registrars of Voters Announce Office Hours and Deadlines for Voter Registration
The Registrars of Voters Office in Town Hall will be open Monday through Friday (except holidays), from 9 a.m to 4 p.m. for voter registration. The office will also be open on Saturday, Oct. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m, and Tuesday, Oct. 27 until 8 p.m for special enrollment sessions.

Micro Cell Phone Antenna Proposed for Compo Beach “Dead Zone”
Verizon Wireless proposes to co-locate a micro antenna onto the side of an existing 35-foot utility pole (#25844) located on Compo Beach Road in Westport. The mounting arm, antenna and related equipment will be 24 feet off the ground and attached to the side of the utility pole.

Large Mid-Year Cut in State Municipal Aid Affects Westport’s Budget
Westport will have a particularly large reduction in state aid to towns and cities when compared to the other 168 municipalities. Based on percentage, Westport’s reduction in aid is 12.01%, the second highest in the state.

Westport Minuteman Changes Newspaper Delivery Method Effective Oct. 1
Effective Thursday, Oct. 1, 2015, the Westport Minuteman will be delivered directly to subscribers’ driveways in protective plastic bags, and not through the US Postal Service as currently delivered.
