Town Tree Lighting Thursday, Dec. 3; Main Street Closed for Holiday Festivities
The Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue, on Thursday, Dec. 3 at 5 p.m. The Staples High School Orphenians will perform. Main Street will be closed for planned festivities to kick of the Holiday season in Downtown Westport.

Initial 2015 Property Revaluations to be Distributed in Coming Weeks
The Assessor’s Office, in conjunction with Vision Government Solutions has concluded the inspection and valuation process for Westport properties. Homeowners will be receiving initial revaluation notices for the October 1, 2015 revaluation in the upcoming weeks.

P&Z Commission to Hear New Text Amendment at Dec. 3 Meeting
On Dec. 3 the Planning & Zoning Commission is scheduled to review a text amendment (Amendment #703) to the Westport Zoning Regulations. The amendment proposes the creation of a new zoning district (the “Riverwalk” District). The specifics of the amendment include uses, standards and requirements for the any new developments that would be proposed within the district.

Register Now for Ice Skating Instruction at the P.A.L Rink at Longshore
The Westport Parks and Recreation Department is currently accepting registration for ice skating instruction for all ages at the Westport P.A.L. Rink at Longshore. The program is one ten-week session from Dec. 1 – Feb. 27, 2016.

Town sells over $8 Million of General Obligation Refunding Bonds
The Town of Westport sold $8,480,000 of General Obligation Refunding Bonds on Thursday, Nov. 19. The purpose of this bond issue was to refinance bonds originally issued in 2009 at higher interest rates.

Greens Farms Road Closures on Thanksgiving Morning
The Pequot Road Runners of Fairfield are hosting their 38th Annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning. The run begins in the Southport section of Fairfield and continues into the Greens Farms Section of Westport. Westport residents in the Greens Farms section of Westport can expect road closures and delays on Thanksgiving morning from approximately 7:30 a.m.-10 a.m.

Dodge-A-Cop Event to Benefit Student Outreach Counselor's Family
Youth Members of the Westport Youth Commission and the Teen Awareness Group (TAG) at Staples have announced that the Westport Police-Youth Collaborative (WPYC) will host the 5th Annual Dodgeball Tournament. The proceeds from the event will support the family of late Student Outreach Counselor, Chris Lemone, LPC.

North Avenue Bridge Status Update
There will be further delays in completing the North Avenue Bridge repairs project due to unforeseen engineering problems. Work cessation for the winter months is expected to shift the project completion date to June, 2016.

On Thursday, Nov. 12 the Coach will offer a beginner’s class in Microsoft Excel 2007 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in Excel from 1 – 3 p.m.

Reminder: Do Not Dump Leaves into Waterways or Wetlands
Fall cleanup is a good time for property owners to inform anyone who works with them or for them that this material should not be blown or dumped into any river, pond, or wetland at any time of year. Dumping in those sensitive areas can have serious consequences.

DPW Announces Curbside Leaf Collection Program
The curbside collection period is Nov. 2 through Nov. 30. Leaves in biodegradable paper bags placed on the curbside during this period will be collected by the Westport Public Works Department.

Town Clerk Announces Special Saturday Hours for Absentee Voting
The Town Clerk’s office will be open for absentee voting this Saturday, Oct. 31 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. These special office hours are scheduled to accommodate voters applying for an Absentee Ballot to vote in the municipal election to be held Tuesday, Nov. 3.
