Eat Well Healthy Restaurant Program Launches May 21
The Westport-Weston Health District and other partner organizations in the Healthy for Life Project have teamed up to begin the Eat Well Healthy Restaurant Program. The program launches May 21 at the Westport Weston Family YMCA.

“Ceremonies and Celebrations” Program Marks Fourteenth Anniversary
The Human Services Department’s “Ceremonies and Celebrations” program is now underway and will continue through the month of June. Developed in response to requests from school staff for assistance in purchasing new clothing for graduating middle and high school students, 2017 marks the program’s fourteenth year.

IRS Phone Scams Continue
According to the Westport Police Department, local residents continue to receive phone calls from persons or recordings claiming to be the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). In these calls, victims are threatened with lawsuits, arrest, or fines unless they pay money that is supposedly owed in taxes.

Ed Vebell selected as Grand Marshall for the Memorial Day Parade
Ed Vebell has been selected as the Grand Marshal for the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 29. In honor of all veterans and first responders, there will be a helicopter flyover by Eagle One out of Stratford,. during the parade.

No Increase in Mill Rate for Fiscal Year 2017-2018
The Board of Finance voted unanimously at its meeting Wednesday night to keep the mill rate at 16.86, representing a 0% increase, for the coming fiscal year 2017-2018.

Town of Westport officials have announced positive results from last Tuesday’s $6.9 million bond sale, which yielded competitive interest rates on the strength of solid reviews from Moody’s Investors Service, one of the three major Wall Street Rating Agency firms.

Public Hearing on Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Scheduled for May 18 P&Z Meeting
The Planning & Zoning Commission is scheduled to review Text Amendment #735-Medical Marijuana on May 18. The Amendment proposes to allow medical marijuana dispensaries to be located in commercial districts provided they are located 1,000 feet away from protected uses.

Health District Will Offer "Live Well" program at Senior Center
The Westport Weston Health District will offer Live Well, a free six week workshop at the Westport Center for Senior Center on Mondays, May 15 through June 27 from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Live Well is a nationally recognized evidence based health promotion program.

Public Shred Day Scheduled for May 13
Westport will hold its ninth annual community shred day on Saturday, May 13 from 9 a.m. to noon at 180 Bayberry Lane (Westport/Weston Health District). Residents may shred up to eight paper bags (bags recycle too), or three boxes (12 inches by 18 inches), per household. Each car will be charged $5.

Police and First Selectman Respond to Disturbing Flyers
Westport residents have found flyers with disturbing messages in their driveways, in this case with neo-Nazi and white supremacist content. This latest incident comes almost two years to the day after disturbing flyers appeared in other parts of town.

The Westport Library Announces Call for Applications to Library Board of Trustees
The Westport Library is seeking candidates to apply for vacancies on the Library Board of Trustees. The Library is particularly interested in meeting with candidates with experience in the fields of development, fundraising for capital and annual campaigns. Trustee appointments will be for a four-year term beginning July 1, 2017.

P&Z to Review Amendment to Zoning Regulations on April 20
The amendment proposes to modify §34-11.12 of the Zoning Regulations to allow alternative leased parking spaces on an adjoining commercial lot in lieu of building-out previously approved reserved future parking spaces, provided the leased lot has primary driveway access to an Arterial or Collector street.
