Telephone Scam Alert - "Fire Department Foundation" Not Affiliated with Westport Fire Department
Recently the Westport Fire Department has received inquiries from several residents who were solicited by telephone for donations to the Westport Volunteer Fire Department. The caller identified themselves as representing the Fire Department Foundation. To our knowledge no such organization exists.

Assessor's Office Reminds Veterans to File Exemption Forms Prior to September 28, 2018
The Assessor’s Office reminds all Veterans (or widows/widowers of Veterans) who have served during an active period of war for at least 90 days, and have received an honorable discharge, to file their DD-214 in the Town Clerk’s Office prior to September 28, 2018. The exemption is $6000 off of your assessment and will be reflected in the July 2019 tax bill.

'Play By the Rules' Teaches Middle Schoolers Civic Responsibility
The Westport Police Department and Westport Youth Services are teaming up again to bring the civic responsibility program, ”Play By The Rules,” to local students in grades 7 & 8. The fall session will take place on Wednesdays from 3:30pm-5pm beginning on October 3 and running through November 14 at the Westport Police Department

Voluntary Registry for People with Disabilities Announced
Westport Police and Department of Human Services Announces New Voluntary Registry for People with Disabilities. The confidential and voluntary registry service will assist officers and other emergency services personnel in the event of an incident involving vulnerable citizens with disabilities.

Checks will Continue to be Accepted for Transit Tickets at the Senior Center and Human Services
Human Services at Westport Town Hall (Room 200) and the Center for Senior Activities WILL continue to accept personal checks for Norwalk Transit District ticket. Door-To-Door tickets or tokens may be purchased with cash or check at these two locations.

Become a Volunteer EMT this Fall and Save Lives
Westport Volunteer Emergency Medical Service (WVEMS) has opened registration for their upcoming Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) course beginning on September 26th, 2018. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be eligible for State Emergency Medical Technician certification and to volunteer on the ambulance.

Community Service Corps Seeks Middle School Volunteers
Applications for the Fall 2018 Community Service Corps are now available. The Community Service Corps is an after-school program available to Westport students in 6th-8th grades. Student volunteers will work one afternoon each week, Monday - Friday from 3-5 p.m. beginning October 1 through December 7.

UPDATE Canal Road at Marsh Court to close for approximately 2 months starting MONDAY, August 20
Canal Road at Marsh Court will be closed for approximately two months, 24/7, tentatively starting Monday, August 20. On Wednesday, August 15 the intersection will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m..

Construction Continues on Clinton Ave & Newtown Turnpike Bridge Repair Over the Merritt
ConnDOT intends to start working on the Clinton Ave and Newtown Turnpike bridges over the Merritt Parkway starting Monday, August 13. Neither bridge will close, but traffic patterns will change.

UPDATE-The Career Coach Will Offer 2013 EXCEL Classes in Westport on Thursday, August 9, 2018
Tomorrow's class is EXCEL, NOT POWERPOINT, as described in an earlier post. The Career Coach is coming to Town Hall. On Thursday, August 9 the Coach will offer a beginner’s class in Microsoft Excel 2013 from 10 a.m. – noon, followed by an intermediate class in Excel 2013 from 1 – 3 p.m.

Cribari Bridge Night Work Detours On Going Until September 7
Work will happen Monday - Thursday - 8 p.m. - 5 a.m. nightly. Electric detour signs will be posted directing motorists to Rt 1 or I-95 to get over the Saugatuck River until September 7.
