Financial Sustainability Mission Statement:
The Town of Westport Parks and Recreation Department's Financial Sustainability Strategy intends to create organizational resilience by way of logical, intentional, and thoughtful guidelines for investment and spending decisions. The strategy encourages revenue generation strategies and practices that are fair, equitable, and responsible. This policy is necessary to ensure the Department's financial stability in the near and long term.
Environmental Sustainability Mission Statement:
The mission of the Westport Parks and Recreation Maintenance Division is to provide residents with recreational properties that are maintained in a safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing manner. We strive to achieve the standards that Westport residents expect of our athletic fields, beaches, parks, and waste management through implementation of our sustainable objectives.
Westport Parks and Recreation Maintenance works to implement the following sustainable objectives on our four cornerstones of focus:
Athletic Fields (natural & synthetic)
- Resilient contest surfaces - provide safe, durable, and consistent fields
- Minimize inputs - perform Integrated Pest Management
- Soil stewardship - build soil biology with organic based fertility programs
Beaches
- Storm resiliency - management programs to minimize erosion
- Wildlife preservation - perform maintenance that coexists with native & endangered species needs
Parks
- Promote biodiversity - provide green space for community and ecosystems
- Invasive species management - actively remove invasives
Waste Mangement
- Recycling initiatives - provide opportunity for single stream recycling
- Reduction of CO2 emissions - reduction of fleet usage through smart technology and route optimization
