Birth, Marriage, Death and Burial Certificates
Registrar of Vital Statistics (CGS Title 7, Chapter 93, Sec. 7-73, 7-74)
The Town Clerk’s office is where birth, death, and marriage certificates are filed. Burial and transit permits, cremation permits, and disinterment permits are also handled through the Clerk’s office. The office will make certified copies for families, the State of Connecticut and other Connecticut towns. We do not share information with other states, nor do they share information with us.

The Registrar of Vital Statistics accepts cash, check or money order only. Online orders using a credit/debit card can be submitted through VitalChek.com. Next day delivery is optional. Birth Certificates
Certified copies of birth certificates can be issued for people who were born in Westport, or whose parents were residents of Westport at the time of the birth. To obtain a certified copy of a birth certificate by mail please use this application [PDF] and mail it to us with the following:
- Self-addressed stamped return envelope
- $20 for each certified copy requested, as a check or money order payable to Town of Westport

Marriage Certificates*
Certified copies of marriage certificates can be issued for parties who were married in Westport, or for parties married within the State of Connecticut, that resided in Westport at the time of their marriage.
To obtain a certified copy of a marriage certificate by mail please use this application [PDF]and mail it to us with the following:

- $20 for each certified copy requested as a check or money order payable to Town of Westport

*Please note: In accordance with C.G.S. §46B-38rr, all civil unions converted to marriages on Oct. 1, 2010, except those that were dissolved, or had dissolution, annulment or legal separation proceedings pending on Oct. 1, 2010.
Burial Permits
Burial permits are $5 and can be obtained in the Town Clerk's office.
Death Certificates
Certified copies of death certificates for a death occurring in the state of Connecticut, can be issued for people who have died in Westport, or who were residents of Westport at the time of death. To obtain a certified copy of a death certificate by mail, please use this application [PDF], and mail it to us with the following:
