The Animal Control Division, under direct supervision of the Westport Police Department, is responsible for enforcement of local and state laws affecting domestic and wild animal life.

Animal Control Officers (ACO's) work seven days a week and are subject to emergency callbacks when needed. Currently, the animal shelter is open from 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. However it is recommended that visitors call first as the ACO's are frequently out of the building.

The phone number for the shelter is (203) 341-5076. Messages should be left for the ACO's at that number for non-emergency complaints and/or requests. In the event that an ACO needs to be contacted immediately, or in the event of an emergency (such as a dog hit by car) please call the Police Department at (203) 341-6000.

The Westport Animal Shelter Advocates (WASA) perform numerous volunteer duties in and around the shelter, including dog-walking and socialization for dogs in need of homes. You can follow them here.
