Overview

The Westport Police Department has a full-time complement of 66 sworn police officers that serve the Town of Westport with coverage 24 hours per day, 365 days per year. Our greatest asset are the sworn and civilian members of this Department, who prove each day that they are committed to providing quality services to Westport. We welcome feedback and suggestions from the community, as we always strive to improve our services.

The Westport Police Department is accredited by the Connecticut Police Officers Standards and Training Council (POSTC) at Tier I (2017) and Tier II (2020).

The state accreditation process is part of the Police Officers Standards and Training Council and is one of the most stringent sets of accreditation standards. It consists of three tiers. Tier I, Liability Standards, is designed to assist police agencies to better protect themselves, their employees, and their governing entities from liability exposure and enhanced delivery of service, and improved public confidence in the agency. Tier II, Professional Standards, addresses legal requirements, management and operations. Tier III, General Management, further expands upon the Tier II Standards, addressing legal requirements, management, and operations.
