terrencedunn0247Welcome to the Westport Fire Marshal’s Office. We are dedicated to the safety of everyone who lives, works, and visits our town. This is achieved by multiple facets of the daily operations of our office, which include fire inspections of businesses, schools, and residential occupancies that are larger than three dwelling units using the 2022 Connecticut Fire Safety and Fire Prevention Codes. Plan reviews are conducted for all new commercial buildings, tenant fit-ups, and changes of use in existing buildings to ensure compliance with the Fire Safety Code.

“We strongly believe in community involvement, every day the members of the Fire Marshal‘s Office strive to provide the best possible service to the residents of Westport, by upholding the core values,” said Fire Marshal Dunn.

As part of our commitment to Community Risk Reduction, we educate the public on fire safety practices, fire extinguisher training, and perform courtesy home inspections. We are also tasked by State Statute to investigate the origin and cause of all fires within the boundaries of the Town of Westport. Burn permits and blasting permits are also issued by this office.

If you spot a forest fire, remain calm, go to the nearest telephone and dial 911 to report the fire as quickly as possible to your local fire department. Calmly tell the emergency dispatcher when you saw it and where you saw it. Stay on the telephone until the dispatcher tells you to hang up.
