Exemption for Legally Blind – State of Connecticut

Any individual that presents a certification of Legal Blindness from the State of Connecticut Board of Education and Services for the Blind (BESB) may be eligible for a $3000 exemption from their assessment if filed prior to Oct. 1. This exemption is not reimbursed by the state.

Exemption for Disability  – State of Connecticut

An individual who receives a disability pension from Social Security Administration and has been designated by the SSA is eligible for a $1000 exemption from their assessment. To qualify you must file a copy of your “Award Letter” that states disability along with an application, prior to Oct. 1.Download Application Form>> [PDF]

Exemption for Motor Vehicle for Physically Handicapped – Town of Westport local option

An owner of a specially equipped motor vehicle (specially equipped means any motor vehicle that has been substantially modified or equipped for the purpose of being operated by a physically disabled person or for transporting such physically disabled person) may apply to the Assessor for the exemption. The Assessor shall determine if the vehicle qualifies as a specially equipped motor vehicle. Applications shall be filed annually with the Assessor,  not later than Nov. 1. Download Application [PDF]
