Notice is hereby given that the United Nations Hospitality Committee will meet on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. (please note earlier start time) at Town Hall, Room 201A for the following purposes:
1. Report -- Peace Run -- Westport, Norwalk, Stamford -- August 14; Milford Oyster Festival -- Saturday, Aug. 16
2. September 18, 5- 8 p.m. Reception for Volunteers and New Members, Compo Beach
Arrangements and publicity
3. UN Day -- Friday, October 24 Norwalk Community College -- Proposed panel discussion on events in Iraq and Syria; Westport Town Hall ceremony
4. Visitors Programs and future activities, including Thanksgiving Hospitality and ideas for Human fights Day, Dec. 10.
As previously discussed, aside from inviting guest speakers on topics of interest, we can also consider film screenings and Model UN support as ways to reach out to the community and build membership. Partnerships with other organizations, including colleges and universities and NGOs such as Amnesty International, will be explored.
Also your views and suggestions will be welcome on potential program topics, such as climate change, women's issues, peacekeeping, refugee support, human trafficking and emergency relief operations.
