Norwalk Transit District – Westport Service


Notice is hereby given that a public hearing will be held by the Norwalk Transit District on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 7:30 P.M. in Room 201 at Westport Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Avenue, Westport. At the hearing the Transit District will discuss and receive testimony on the following proposed changes to the Westport bus service as well as a fare increase:

1. Elimination of Daytime Route 1 and Pepperidge Farm Commuter Shuttle. A new route will be introduced called S1 – Post Road West/Downtown. It will operate during peak commuting hours. The route will serve the Post Road West corridor to the Westport town line. It will also serve Riverside Avenue and downtown Westport.
2. Elimination of Last Evening Trip on all Commuter Shuttles. The 7:30 PM departure from the Saugatuck Station for the S2, S3, and S4 will be eliminated. The 7:40 PM trip from the Greens Farms Station for the G1 and G2 will be eliminated. The 8:22 PM departure from the Saugatuck Station for the Imperial Lot will be eliminated.
3. Elimination of Two Morning Trips. The first S3 trip arriving at the Saugatuck Station at 6:11 AM will be eliminated. The first Imperial Lot trip arriving at the Saugatuck Station at 5:56 AM will be eliminated.
4. Elimination of Nyala Farms/Greens Farms Service from Saugatuck Station. A morning trip from Greens Farms Station at 7:45 AM will be provided as well as a trip arriving at the Greens Farms Station at 5:45 PM.
5. Elimination of the Norden Park Shuttle as a Westport Service. The Norden Park Shuttle will operate on the current schedule to and from the Westport Station however it will be considered a Norwalk Commuter Shuttle.
6. Change the After School Shuttle 3 Route. The After School Shuttle 3 would travel from the Conservative Synagogue directly to the YMCA, ending at Jesup Green at 3:43 PM.

These changes to the Westport Service would be effective July 18, 2011.

In addition to the service changes noted above, a proposal to increase the base fare from $1.25 to $1.50; and, the fare for people 65 years old or older, persons with disabilities and persons with Medicare card from $.60 to $.75 on all bus services will be presented.

A copy of the proposed time schedule is available on Westport Service vehicles, on the website (www.norwalktransit.com), at the Norwalk Transit District office at 275 Wilson Avenue, Norwalk, Connecticut or by calling the Transit District at 203-299-5160 and requesting a copy.

At the public hearing all persons with an interest in the service change and/or fare increase will be given an opportunity to speak. Written statements will also be accepted for inclusion in the official hearing record as well as email correspondence to the District website at www.norwalktransit.com. All correspondence must be received by June 22, 2011.
